about
The protagonist of this story was a hedonist who was a slave to his addictions; consumed by his own gluttony: alcohol and cocaine. He lived for the thrill and the high of indulging in these vices. He was a modern-day Icarus, soaring to the heights of pleasure, but never looking down on the consequences of his actions.
Gluttony, derived from the Latin gluttire meaning "to gulp down or swallow" means over-indulgence and over-consumption of food, drink, or wealth items, particularly as status symbols. He didn’t want to wake up the good guy on him and live the reality. He wanted to experience all the devilish things around him thus he became the Sentinel of the sleeping Gods every time he snorted another fresh line of cocaine, feeling invincible and putting all the Gods living inside of him numb. The Gods mentioned can be a metaphor for many things in here: Different personality traits, his inner light, and mood, all his vital senses… God as a master functional key, not a spiritual entity. Why not sleeping demons then? Well, he was living already hell on Earth and had become a demon himself already.
The orchestra went along with his every move, giving him a score for his every act. Some parts were like a drunkard's waltz, other parts were like a snort of cocaine, and each movement of the orchestra was a step in his downward spiral. All of it was also punctuated by Ricardo's only solo performance on the album, lightning, and technical solo.
Still, he persisted in his lifestyle, never feeling any remorse for the damage he was causing himself and those around him. He was the sentinel of the sleeping gods, never to change, forever stuck in a loop of drug-fuelled bliss.
lyrics
Trapped by the serenity of my own consumption
An internal concern arises, powerless I'm taken by
I no longer belong to thee, I haul the harm away
Incoherently, I chew, I bawl, I saw my tongue
I became the sentinel of the sleeping gods
A hit of a resentful dismal trip shredded my utterance
I haul the harm away
An anechoic gasp silences my will
One step further towards the bottom of my own existence’s well
Shamelessly I keep them in a deeper stupor
I must be the authority today
I became the sentinel of the sleeping gods
My flesh is boiling with the alertness of guards in the supremacy reign
The lynx eyes will never betray
I need to get more of this dust
To not surrender to the real I

This is fantastic! Some seriously tasty brutal tech death, with absolutely crushing riffs, rhythm, and vocals.
The album's production and mixing is also perfect, it's very balanced and allows the music to shine through the brutality.
Highly, highly recommended! somethingsomething9

Old school Death Metal in its purest form. Thanks to Transcending Obscurity for this little gem. Found it on Bandcamp Friday. The clean singing part in „Rot of Ages“ is epic - i did not expecting this. Highly recommended for everyone who loves old school Death Metal! Sælzer Bub
